PureCanadian Hey Jim - sorry to hear WW didn't work for you. I'm fairly new on the program (Joined in August 2008) and it's working great so far. Probably because exercise was already a part of my life before I joined...I just needed to learn how to eat properly so my workout efforts would show! For me, WW was the answer I was looking for. You are right about the importance of balancing exercise AND diet to lose weight and keep it off. I see many WW members who (like you) have returned time and again because of failed efforts to keep the weight off. I want to tell them that if they just maintained a regular fitness routine, managing their weight on WW would be easy. I plan to be a lifetime member of WW so I don't fall back into old eating habits after I reach my goal weight.

PureCanadian Hey Cecilia - Good for you for getting back on the program. I just joined WW and what an eye opener. I thought I was eating healthy but I was way off in terms of portions! No wonder my workouts weren't making any difference. I'm glad I'm on the program and I feel confident that this diet will work for me (combined with my regular gym routines). Any words of wisdom for a newbie to WW?

PureCanadian Hey guys! Looks like I'm kickstarting this group up again. So glad to see their is a WW for Life group because I am joining the program (through my work) next week. I don't know what to expect but I know the program has worked for millions so I'm giving it a try. I need to lose 30 pounds to reach my goal weight and my 5x/week gym time does not seem to be cutting it. Must be the diet, so I'm hoping WW is the answer to get me back to my ideal body weight and keep it off for life. Any words of wisdom on what to expect for my first meeting?

cecilia I think WW tell you to both eat a healthy diet and exercise.
I am actually going back on the program today =)
It is the only diet I ever stuck to more than a week and if I go to weekly meetings I know I lose weight.
Just got to keep going.
But it is not the right choice for everyone. I'm glad that you found a method that was right for you!
Congrats on losing and keeping it off!
Hopefully I'll see you by the goal line pretty soon =)

JimB I'm sorry to be negative, but I joined WW no fewer than 4 times over the 15 years I battled with my weight. Each time I lost weight, then gained it all back and then some. Because of the emphasis on diet, my metabolism slowed down and that offset my reduced calorie intake. Finally I decided that the time I was spending at WW meetings would be better spent in the gym. It wasn't until I got on a serious workout program that included weightlifting that I lost the weight and kept it off. WW does provide a lot of good information about nutrition, but for any weight loss program to work, it has to emphasize exercise over diet.
