runningbear Thanks for the feedback on the group. I do exactly what you do; I'm up at 5 and run/swim laps alternately. No one even misses me at that hour of the morning. BTW, welcome to FicConnect and fitparents!! Happy to have you!!

PureCanadian Hello! I just joined the group and the site! - It's tough to limit your choices since there are so many interesting groups! This one is of particular interest to me. I'm a wife and mom with an 8 year old son and a full time job, so I know how tough it can be to get a workout in your already jam packed schedule!

Great ideas on how to stay fit WITH your kids as opposed to finding time for yourself:) Very creative parents out there! My son is into soccer, karate and swimming so we play lots of sports together as a family. I usually get my own gym time in every morning at 5:00 am (ouch!). It takes some getting used to, but I get back in time to wake up my little boy and have breakfast together. How do you guys stay in shape while juggling the busy lifestyle of a parent?

Carina My son weighs about 49 lbs.... he loves when I throw him over my shoulder and spin him in a circle. He's not afraid of heights either because he loves when I pick him up by his thighs and raise him straight up in the air. Although he is 6, he has bad lungs and can't walk far so I still have to carry him sometimes (I don't always bring his wheelchair). He's not the only thing I'm carrying either... I have my purse, his diaper bag, an emergency medical bag and a portable suction machine (because he has a tracheostomy). So YES, I get a huge workout with my son! :)

runningbear I did that until they got too big for me to lift. I'd lay on the floor and do overhead presses. They loved it!

onestrongman Does anyone work out by lifting their kids? I give my girls "carnival rides", essentially lifting spinning and them around in the air. I put one in each arm. Their favorite is the double upside down spin and jump. They love it and it really tires me out, in a good way. :-)

runningbear Very cool! He knows more than many adults I know - and hopefully he'll maintain those healthy habits when he grows up.

OzzieOcean Thank you... my kids are very important to me, and I want them to know that, and I want them to experience as much as possible while having fun with them. Altough only 6, Bayleigh can tell you why chicken and turkey are good for you, and why salad is important to eat...lol... he's like a mini nutritionist.

runningbear I see that ALL the time when I take my daughter. There are groups of moms who are there primarily to socialize, and I wonder if they see at all where their kids are and what they're doing. I'm ususally up there climbing the jungle gym with my little girl or at least helping her across the bars. Once I start that the kids line up to have me do the same for them. They'd LOVE it if their moms would do that for them. What i have also noticed is that when it's a dad at the park, he's usually more actively involved in play. BTW....Happy Father's Day this coming Sunday, Dads!!
